Ladybugs

Ladybugs eat aphids, mealybugs, mites and scale insects. I find their life cycle interesting because as larvae they look like mean, no-good critters--but don't squish 'em! They will soon metamorphosize into the lovely ladybugs that everybody likes. Also, Michaele says that they are more likely to bite, and bite harder, than spiders. She told me that when there is not enough food for them in the field they will land on you and bite.

Ladybugs like umbelliferous plants like the fennel that this one is crawling about on. You will also find a lot on carrots.
