Madrona Market Madness

I work at the Madrona market from 3 to 7pm on Fridays. The neighborhood is just south east of Capitol Hill and the market is in the parking lot of Gross-out (i.e. Grocery Outlet) on MLK just south of Union. This is our lovely stand, with the soaps out in front.

Fellow intern and market partner Jay poses for the camera as he sprays the veggies down with ice water to prevent wiltage. He did a stellar job of keeping the produce cool with spray and ice--we even got complimented on it by our customers!

CHARD

Kohlrabi and turnips--both great for roasting.

CABBAGE

Thanks to my father I love fennel. He calls it Finochio in the Italian tradition. The best way to cook it is to stem it and then put olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper on top.

It was 90 degrees at the market so we had to keep ourselves cool along with the veggies. Jay has perfected the direct-facial-spray; although sometimes he nearly nabs the customers walking behind him.
