Soldier beetles are also known as hogweed bonking beetles because of their habit of conspicuous mating.
These beetles are beneficial insects; according to Michaele they eat nearly all the different types of pests on the farm. They eat small insects like aphids and their larva eat snails. They love tall grasses (they mate on the seed heads) so Michaele keeps grass tall where she can to attract the beetles.
